Virginia Tech's most important place

Me, Sam, and Kyle had a special night the night before spring break began. At about 11:30 Thursday evening, we decided we wanted to take a walk over to the most important part of Virginia Tech's campus. Something that is truly unique, and something most of the Virginia Tech students take for granted. It's a place where everyone that's a Hokie knows it's there, but doesn't really appreciate its' true meaning. And this is truly a shame.

The Pylons at Virginia Tech are truly the backbone and foundation upon what the university really stands for. Originally made to honor the lives of Virginia Tech corp/students who died in combat, the 8 Pylons can be used as a measuring stick for all of us individually as well.

When the three of us walked across campus to the Pylons in the cold, windy weather, there was something special about it. It made all of us stop and appreciate our university. Appreciate the students/faculty of the past who established Virginia Tech's niche and tradition. The three of us, kindof mystically drawn in to the 8 different Pylons, went around to each one and took in the different meanings and significance. We realized that these 8 things were truly what defined the university and what should define every student who calls themselves Hokies. It should be our duty to uphold the tradition and to pass it on to future Hokies to come. As of right now, the majority of us are struggling to uphold these 8 Pylons. This should be our challenge in the future, to hold others accountable while also striving individually to be a man or lady of character (ultimately following the 8 Pylons).

Brotherhood

Honor

Leadership

Loyalty

Service

Sacrifice

Duty

Ut Prosm (That I May Serve)

The three of us really appreciated this special moment the night before our Spring Break. I really encourage everyone at Tech to walk over to the 8 Pylons one night just to stop and reflect. It's a moment that you will probably remember the most about your experiences in college.

Much love from Suite 340,
